I bought it from George Martin (not the George Martin of Beatle fame!). George was a lovely, kind man who had been our neighbour up on the Prairie Crescent for many years. The stereo was a Lloyd's brand and had an AM / FM radio, a phono input and a 8-track player. </div></div><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a" style="caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin: 0.5em 0px 0px; white-space: pre-wrap; word-wrap: break-word;"><div dir="auto" style="font-family: inherit;">In an effort to make a more portable playback device especially targeted for vehicles the 8-track was invented. This was a tape inside a cartridge that had <span style="font-family: inherit;"><a style="color: #385898; cursor: pointer; font-family: inherit;" tabindex="-1"></a></span>1/4 inch tape with 4 stereo tracks spread across the tape thus giving it 8-tracks. </div></div><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a" style="caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin: 0.5em 0px 0px; white-space: pre-wrap; word-wrap: break-word;"><div dir="auto" style="font-family: inherit;">The tape was an endless loop inside the cartridge and went round and round unless you hit a button and it changed the position of the playback head resulting in an annoying snap. I loved this stereo and proudly set it up in my room and one of the very first 8-track tapes that I acquired was the BTO (Bachman Turner Overdrive) album, <b>FOUR WHEEL DRIVE</b>. This was my first exposure to the songs of Randy Bachman although I am sure by then I had heard the music from his major claim to fame up that point and that was the band, The Guess Who. I wore the tape out!</div></div><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a" style="caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin: 0.5em 0px 0px; white-space: pre-wrap; word-wrap: break-word;"><div dir="auto" style="font-family: inherit;">Fast forward many years later to when I owned and operated a small recording studio and 14 AKG 460b microphones came up for sale. These microphones had hung in the legislative assembly in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada and as such were basically in new condition. I didn't need 14 identical microphones (well, maybe I did but I couldn't afford them) so I ended up selling 2 to my friend Harold Wiens, 2 to my friend Roy Salmond and 2 to none other than Randy Bachman himself for his studio on Salt Spring Island in British Columbia. I ended up hanging on to 4 of them and sent 2 of them to Jim Williams of Audio Upgrades for his stellar modifications.</div></div><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a" style="caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin: 0.5em 0px 0px; white-space: pre-wrap; word-wrap: break-word;"><div dir="auto" style="font-family: inherit;">A couple of weeks passed after I shipped them out to Randy and in the mail one day came a beautiful, handwritten letter from Randy Bachman himself thanking me for the microphones. The letter was on his 1970's looking, airbrushed font letterhead. Now I sold these to him they were not a gift so he didn't really need to thank me but the impression that made on me was significant. Here was a man who had sold over 40 million records and counting and was famous around the globe and he took the time to personally write and thank little 'ole me who he didn't know from Adam. Another great lesson for me on being thankful and it also left me with the distinct impression that this was a class man.</div></div><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a" style="caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin: 0.5em 0px 0px; white-space: pre-wrap; word-wrap: break-word;"><div dir="auto" style="font-family: inherit;">Last evening, myself and 3 friends were able to take in a stellar night where Randy at the age of 80 shared stories about his songs, his guitars and his life and also played quite a number of his big hits with a band made up of his son Tal on bass and keys and Tal's wife, KoKo on the drums. Randy currently owns over 1000 guitars and is an avid collector. He is also a consummate story teller and if you haven't heard his Vinyl Tap podcasts you owe it to yourself to check them out!</div><div dir="auto" style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Doug's father, John served at Prairie College in marketing and development and was a man of considerable art talent himself. This gene has passed on to his children. My Dad worked with John and has often told me that he was, "way ahead of his <span style="font-family: inherit;"><a style="color: #385898; cursor: pointer; font-family: inherit;" tabindex="-1"></a></span>time" in his ideas for branding, advertising and marketing. Doug's use of light in his paintings and specifically his skies is absolutely stunning! Many of Doug's paintings incorporate the themes of storms and of solitary trees battling the winds against incredible odds. Beauty and brokenness, daily fare of all earths fellow pilgrims draws him to consider that light demands darkness to truly sparkle. He does this by running worship workshops, consulting and</p><p>coaching worship leaders. He has written a book called “How Right Worship Changes us,”</p><p>available on Amazon. He and Dorilee have also co-authored a book called “Popular Music</p><p>Theory,” aimed at helping worship bands. The quartet sang a lively 4 part harmony, gospel tinged style of music and were instrumental in putting Prairie College on the map along with LE Maxwell. Hard to believe now, but the quartet was fairly controversial in some parts of the country. They were actually kicked out of more than one church for what was deemed, “worldly” music.</span><div><span style="background-color: white;"><br style="caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;" /></span><span style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">I don’t claim to be a DNA scientist or specialist in any way but I do know this: The musical talent and thread that runs through the Janz DNA is simply remarkable. Not only Leo and his brothers but Paul’s siblings and cousins and onto the next generation of children, nieces and nephews. I’m not sure if I know any other situation quite like it.</span></div><div><span style="background-color: white;"><br style="caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;" /></span><span style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">Brought up in a very musical family, he first learned the trumpet and by age 13 was engaged with his local chapter of The Salvation Army. He was in the Janz Team Singers, then Danny, Paul and Wayne and then formed a band with his brother Ken and his cousin Danny called Deliverance in the mid ’70’s. Deliverance released 3 albums in the next 10 years having a marginal hit song with, Leaving LA.</span><br style="caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;" /><span style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">In 1984, Paul launched his solo career, which culminated in four projects with a string of chart-topping hits from each album. </span></div><div><span style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">The first solo album recorded at Greenhouse Studios in Vancouver would achieve gold record status in Canada. The success of his projects led to his nomination for a Juno Award, Canada's most prominent music award. Despite achieving great success in Canada, his U.S. record label's restructuring of its roster of artists led to the end of promotion in the American market.</span></div><div><span style="background-color: white;"><br style="caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;" /></span><span style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">This is not my story to tell so you would have to hear it or read it from Paul, but Paul abruptly quit the music business in around 1994. Done. Finished. Not even a little toe in the water. He pursued further studies and began to teach philosophy at Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia before becoming Professor Emeritus of Philosophical Theology and Head of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at King's College London.</span></div><div><span style="background-color: white;"><br style="caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;" /></span><span style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">Paul has written a book entitled God, the Mind's Desire: Reference, Reason and Christian Thinking published by Cambridge University Press. </span></div><div><span style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">In 2004, Janz's first album High Strung was re-released on CD for the first time by Escape Music in the UK.</span></div><div><span style="background-color: white;"><br style="caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;" /></span><span style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">I am going to post a couple of things in the comment section: The first one is a song called: Praying off of Paul’s last album, Trust released in 1992. For some of us having missionaries, preachers, etc. through our homes gave us a much broader world view than an equivalent kid say brought up in Acme.</span></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: medium;"><span><span style="background-color: white;"><br style="caret-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); color: #222222;" /></span></span><span face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); color: #222222;"> 6. Many kids learned a trade, starting very young, sometimes as young as Junior High that have served them well.</span><br style="caret-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); color: #222222;" /><br style="caret-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); color: #222222;" /><span face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); color: #222222;">Many staff kids have gone on to be over achievers driven by a variety of reasons I am sure, but I believe whether recognized or not, a lot of the skills that we have used in our lives were developed and fostered at PBI. There are others, but these are what come to mind immediately.</span><br style="caret-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); color: #222222;" /><br style="caret-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); color: #222222;" /><br style="caret-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); color: #222222;" /><span face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); color: #222222;"> Thoughts?</span><br style="caret-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); color: #222222;" /><br style="caret-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); color: #222222;" /><br style="caret-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); color: #222222;" /><span face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); color: #222222;"> SjR</span></span><div class="yj6qo" style="caret-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline" /></div></div></div></div></div>Stephen J Rendallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14747884070369868469noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2874417353860092297.post-16590589501840838682022-04-01T20:16:00.002-07:002022-04-01T20:16:43.804-07:00APRIL FOOLS<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMlY4nbKignG4cITzX4cWh-9SMIW-R3NaEy3oMZr34GFIcUVlWKnMAAvl865ruqMY0jHa-kEI1g7yqjF5gXh4sGm1PPkKENubVJX1_23OtMPib_IwMejuwuHhdGT84qAURzccaU7clIBXfWXcqp6xOjz46Ffqc_oW_i3Y28WB3O9x_qGgox2aOJyHezw/s608/167950791_10157600391421442_4544649320130999682_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="342" data-original-width="608" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMlY4nbKignG4cITzX4cWh-9SMIW-R3NaEy3oMZr34GFIcUVlWKnMAAvl865ruqMY0jHa-kEI1g7yqjF5gXh4sGm1PPkKENubVJX1_23OtMPib_IwMejuwuHhdGT84qAURzccaU7clIBXfWXcqp6xOjz46Ffqc_oW_i3Y28WB3O9x_qGgox2aOJyHezw/s320/167950791_10157600391421442_4544649320130999682_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p><span style="caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Some may wonder why I post this year after year on this day? Shortly before he passed I was able to thank him again for his help at that time. ~ SjR</span></div></div>Stephen J Rendallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14747884070369868469noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2874417353860092297.post-10967316952718364432022-03-30T10:29:00.003-07:002022-03-30T10:57:30.582-07:00WHERE ARE THEY NOW? #16 ~ RON HOMENUKE<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTj6hg4719MDgDulqRlJbfaNEpYfaPL40eQ7-OdIdJR6Mq9M9gojUUX3EktriiNtVn0yetoooNz_Ajxrwf4PW7ZQ9348tRvTRhla19o51uwFF-Y9uSad4YEOVzlT0PPSs0Q9k6OHG-tjSvhphvLc5ys0DbLehtWD7Q0atnR0Q24TTGdlNItLiDRATY9w/s600/ron-homenuke-1975-134.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="482" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTj6hg4719MDgDulqRlJbfaNEpYfaPL40eQ7-OdIdJR6Mq9M9gojUUX3EktriiNtVn0yetoooNz_Ajxrwf4PW7ZQ9348tRvTRhla19o51uwFF-Y9uSad4YEOVzlT0PPSs0Q9k6OHG-tjSvhphvLc5ys0DbLehtWD7Q0atnR0Q24TTGdlNItLiDRATY9w/s320/ron-homenuke-1975-134.jpg" width="257" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql o9v6fnle ii04i59q" style="caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin: 0.5em 0px 0px; white-space: pre-wrap; word-wrap: break-word;"><div dir="auto" style="font-family: inherit;">In the mid 1970's when my friends and I would venture into the big city of Calgary to watch the Calgary Centennials of the Western Hockey League play, little did I know that one of the players would later attend Prairie College.</div></div><div class="cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql o9v6fnle ii04i59q" style="caret-color: rgb(5, 5, 5); color: #050505; font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, ".SFNSText-Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin: 0.5em 0px 0px; white-space: pre-wrap; word-wrap: break-word;"><div dir="auto" style="font-family: inherit;">One of our favourite lines was made up of; Danny Gare, Mike Rogers and Ron Homenuke.
